Education Can’t Wait (ECW)
Country Program: RSRP (Syria)
Partner: UNICEF
Duration: 01.07.2018- 30.04.2019
Cluster: Education
This extensive education assistance project served to support 12,000 out of school children (OOSC) and those who were at risk of dropping out of school in 5 areas of Deir-ez-Zor. The intervention included the rehabilitation of 8 schools and the realisation of Back to Learning Campaigns. This helped to inform children and their parents about the importance of education and motivate them to reintegrate into the schooling system.
As part of the soft components of this intervention, we implemented self-learning programs and remedial classes for out of school children and those students at risk of dropping out. We further conducted C4D recreation activities and taught the students key messages on the importance of education, hygiene, health and nutrition through collective games, drawing, dancing and street theatre.
In addition, we conducted teacher training on Psycho-Social Support (PSS), Risk Education and Interactive Learning to introduce the teachers to new methods and means of dealing with students and to support the students to adapt to their current situation and teach them risk awareness.
The realisation of such training helps teachers to understand the importance of their roles, and empower them to actively advocate for children’s rights.
